Michael Pitt
Michael Pitt serves as the Executive Director of the Peter Frates Family Foundation, bringing both deep expertise in organizational leadership and an unbreakable commitment to the Foundation’s mission—a commitment forged through a lifelong bond with Pete Frates himself.
Pitt was a constant presence in Pete Frates’ life, standing by his side from their first high school football practice all the way until Pete’s passing. He now channels that relationship and shared competitive spirit into the fight against ALS.
Operational Expertise and Leadership
Michael brings a wealth of experience in high-level operational and organizational leadership. His professional background includes work in sales, management, and executive consulting across the healthcare industry. Additionally, he has served as a development and performance mindset advisor to student-athletes at Northeastern University. For over a decade, Michael has also worked alongside U.S. military special operators, applying team-building and leadership development principles to high school, collegiate, and professional athletic teams.
Driving the Mission
Michael intends to lead the Foundation with the same tenacious spirit that defined Pete. In his role, he works hand-in-hand with the Frates family to tackle the unresolved problems of home healthcare costs, which remain overwhelming for progressed ALS patients and their loved ones.
“I want to make sure that Pete Frates is a household name, not just today, but 20, 30, 50 years from now,” said Pitt. “The Ice Bucket Challenge that Pete helped to initiate is cemented in pop culture history and was a watershed moment for research, but there are still overwhelming costs of home health care facing today’s progressed ALS patients and their families. That’s our mission at the Peter Frates ALS Foundation, and our work is far from over.”
He feels a deep responsibility to every family facing this disease, stating, “Growing up, the Frates cared and looked after me like I was one of their own. Now in this role, I feel that same familial connection and responsibility to all the families facing the challenges of living with ALS.”
