NOTE: Many people choose to give from their assets – stocks, gifts from their IRA, cryptocurrency, and grants from their Donor-Advised Funds to see even larger tax savings
Many PF3 teammates, supporters, friends, and family have Donor Advised Funds and they employ them to make philanthropic contributions. Donor Advised Funds present an easy way to support the Peter Frates Family Foundation. Donors can use such funds to make gifts to the Foundation and the families we serve. Donors can also name the Peter Frates Family Foundation as a beneficiary of a Donor Advised Fund. A Donor Advised Fund distribution is subject to IRS charitable contribution restrictions. Donor Advised Fund gifts cannot be used to pay for a ticket to a raffle or drawing, a fundraising event, or golf tournament.

An easy option for donors over 70 1/2, maximize your charitable giving by making a gift out of an IRA. Donate up to $100,000 per year tax-free directly to the Peter Frates Family Foundation and avoid recognizing the distribution as income.
Gifts of appreciated securities can be the optimal way for many people to make a gift to the Peter Frates Family Foundation, particularly if the securities have grown in value. Typically, a sale of appreciated securities results in a tax on the amount that the securities have increased. This means that sellers are permitted to keep only a portion of the profit. By donating these appreciated securities to the Peter Frates Family Foundation, gift-givers avoid the capital gains tax while also earning a charitable deduction on the full value of the securities, even the portion that has increased in value.
The Peter Frates Family Foundation has partnered with the Essex County Community Foundation to manage its endowment and facilitate gifts of appreciated securities.
