In years past, this would be about the time of year I’d be strategizing with Big Jim Baronian, AKA Dad, AKA Poppa, for our annual tradition of walking across the Newport Bridge with our other “bridge buddies” for some #MandatoryFamilyFun. It would also be the start of rallying the crew of “3PetePlankers” to “Plunge4Pete as we did on or around Pete Frates’ birthday late December on Good Harbor Beach with countless others who rode the FrateTrain. Although both traditions have now moved on with the passing of these leading and legendary men, the indelible mark they left on my heart, and the hearts of so many others, will live forever.
To honor Dad and Pete, this year Bubba & I will be participating in the 29029 Everesting event at Stratton Mountain in Vermont over the weekend of Oct 14-16. We’ll walk up Stratton Mountain 17 times for a total elevation of 29029 ft over the course of 36 hours to raise money for The Peter Frates Family Foundation which carries on the great work he started, beginning with the Ice Bucket Challenge, to support families with the overwhelming cost of home care for people with ALS.
